Idaho Steelheads vs. Tahoe Knight Monsters

Idaho Steelheads vs. Tahoe Knight Monsters at Idaho Central Arena

Pay attention to the space between a defender and a forward coming up the ice. A defender wants to stay close enough to make a pass or shot difficult, but crowding the play can leave room behind them. Watch that distance shrink and open as the rush moves. The game gives you several chances to see players solve the same problem in different ways. It's something a new fan can spot without knowing the whole rulebook. Idaho Steelheads host Tahoe Knight Monsters at Idaho Central Arena in Boise on March 17.

That is the real pleasure of being in the building. Hockey rewards the eye with small, visible shifts, from a clean faceoff win to a pass that slips through traffic, and Boise fans can follow those moments as they unfold without having to guess at the pace from home.

It also works well as a shared outing. Whether you are going with friends or bringing someone to their first game, the rhythm of the crowd and the constant motion on the ice give everyone something easy to follow from the first shift to the final whistle.

Once you see a defender manage that gap, try following it at the other end of the rink.
