David Sedaris

David Sedaris at Egyptian Theatre - Boise

A sentence can get funnier when you hear the person who wrote it decide where to pause. David Sedaris reads at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, bringing that kind of attention to an evening of stories and commentary. The spring tour follows The Land and Its People, his book of short stories. The program also includes unpublished writing, so regular readers have a reason to come even if they've kept up with his books.

If you usually hear Sedaris in your head when you read, pay attention to where his actual delivery differs. A line you might have hurried through can become the part that makes you laugh when he gives it a little space. That is one of the pleasures of a reading. You have time to hear how the words work and to catch the response of a roomful of people hearing them with you.

The tour includes a book signing before and after the reading. That gives you another way to make an outing of it, especially if you're going with somebody who has passed one of his books along to you. Talk about what you each heard differently and leave room for the story you weren't expecting to remember. Give the writer's voice an evening of your attention in Boise.
