Jason Cheny

Jason Cheny at Knitting Factory Concert House - Boise

A story can sound ordinary until the person telling it puts the emphasis somewhere you weren't expecting. That small surprise is a good reason to see stand-up live. Jason Cheny, a Taiwanese American comic based in Los Angeles, brings his set to Knitting Factory in Boise. If you haven't seen him before, you get a whole evening to discover how he sees a situation and what he does with it once he has your attention.

The fun of going in fresh is that you don't have to wait for a bit you already know. See which details pull you into a story before you know where the laugh is. Then pay attention to what happens after a joke lands. A comic can let a laugh breathe or move on so quickly that the next thought catches you halfway through it. In the room, you get to feel that timing work.

This is an easy outing to suggest to someone who likes finding comedians before you both know the clips by heart. Give the show your evening and leave a little time afterward to compare the lines you each remembered. If one of you comes away laughing at a completely different moment, that gives you another reason to talk about it.
