UpDating

UpDating at Knitting Factory Concert House - Boise

A first date is awkward enough when you can see the other person. UpDating builds a live dating and comedy show around a blindfolded first meeting. Creators Brandon Berman and Harrison Forman bring that premise to Knitting Factory in Boise on December 1. The fun starts with a question you can answer for yourself before either person on the date can. How much do you think you can tell about somebody from the way they talk?

A first conversation can turn on something as small as a pause after an answer. In this format, you have time to hear it and decide what you think it means. The person next to you may read the same moment entirely differently. That's part of the pleasure of being in a room for a meeting that has to unfold in real time. You can form an opinion and then find yourself changing it a few minutes later.

Go with the friend you usually debrief with after a date. You can spend the trip home arguing about what you would have noticed or what you would have asked next. Even if you disagree about what makes two people click, you'll have watched the same first meeting and found different things to laugh about.
