Ari Matti

Ari Matti at Egyptian Theatre - Boise

Ari Matti can make an observation feel like a challenge to keep up. The Estonian-born stand-up brings that energy to the Egyptian Theatre in Boise. If you first saw him as a regular on Kill Tony, this is a chance to follow his point of view through a stand-up show of his own. And if the name is new to you, his pace gives you something to get hold of before you know any of the material.

Observational comedy can be especially satisfying when the comic notices a part of everyday life you've never thought to describe. Somebody seeing an old habit from a different angle can make it sound absurd in a sentence. Pay attention to how quickly Matti gets you to recognize a situation before he changes the way you look at it. That turn is part of what makes a live set worth hearing through instead of catching a single joke.

Take the friend who usually has a strong opinion about what makes a comic funny. You might be listening for the observation while they're laughing at the delivery. A night at the theater gives both of you time to see how the two work together and a reason to stay out talking afterward.
