Ballet Idaho: Swan Lake

Ballet Idaho: Swan Lake at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

If you’ve been meaning to take someone to their first ballet, an afternoon performance is a good place to start. Ballet Idaho presents Swan Lake at Boise’s Morrison Center for the Performing Arts on May 8, 2027, at 2:00 PM. You can make the afternoon ballet the center of your plans and leave time to talk afterward.

Give yourself two things to follow. One is how the dancers distinguish Odette and Odile through movement. The other is Tchaikovsky’s score. Try listening for a change in the music and watching how the story moves with it. You don’t need to know the steps to notice the choices that help you tell the characters apart.

If one of you already knows Swan Lake, let the other tell you what they saw first. It’s a chance to encounter a familiar work from someone else’s perspective.

Swan Lake also makes a good first ballet for somebody who enjoys seeing how music changes the meaning of a scene. Follow one recurring sound in Tchaikovsky's score and notice how your sense of it changes as the dancers move. You can leave with different favorite moments and still have plenty to talk about.
