Ballet Idaho: Swan Lake

Ballet Idaho: Swan Lake at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

A second look at Swan Lake can start with a detail you missed the first time. When Ballet Idaho presents the work at Boise’s Morrison Center for the Performing Arts on May 8, 2027, at 7:30 PM, try following what tells you who a character is before you think about what happens next.

Odette and Odile give you a useful point of comparison. Watch how the dancers distinguish them, then notice what Tchaikovsky’s score adds to your sense of the story. If the music is what first drew you to the ballet, you can spend some of the performance following how movement gives shape to something you already recognize.

Bring another dance fan and compare which parts you paid attention to. Or invite someone who knows the score but has never followed the ballet onstage.

If the story is new to you, watch for the moment when a gesture tells you more than a line of dialogue could. The contrast between Odette and Odile gives you a way into the ballet even if you can't name a single step. It is a pleasure to work out what you're seeing alongside someone else.
