The Book Of Mormon

The Book Of Mormon at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

You know someone who'll lose it when Elder Cunningham starts improvising doctrine. The Book of Mormon puts two earnest young missionaries, one annoyingly perfect, one desperately trying, on a collision course with a Ugandan village that has zero interest in their rehearsed presentation. The tension between their wide-eyed determination and the harsh realities they encounter creates the kind of comedy that makes you gasp before you laugh.

This nine-time Tony winner earned its reputation by refusing to soften any edge. The missionaries believe deeply in their purpose while the musical skewers everything around them, and sometimes skewers them too. You're watching characters who genuinely care about their mission stumble through situations their training manual never covered, with language their mothers definitely never heard.

Bringing someone who appreciates intelligent irreverence makes this hit differently. You'll catch each other's eyes when a song lyric goes somewhere completely unexpected, share that delayed laugh when you process what just happened. The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts gives you the full production, the orchestration, the choreography, the performances that balance sincerity with satire.
