The Book Of Mormon

The Book Of Mormon at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

You know that feeling when you and your friend catch each other's eye during something outrageous, and you both just lose it? That's The Book Of Mormon every eight minutes. This nine-time Tony-winning musical puts two impossibly sincere missionaries in situations so absurd, so perfectly constructed, that you'll be elbowing whoever came with you before the first act ends. The explicit language isn't there for shock value, it's precision-engineered to make the satire land harder, and when it does, you'll hear the entire Morrison Center erupt together.

What makes April 4th worth circling is how rarely you get comedy this sharp in musical form. The friction between wide-eyed optimism and brutal reality creates moments that stick with you, the kind you'll bring up at dinner three weeks later when someone mentions mission work or Uganda or honestly anything adjacent. Musical theater that makes you think and laugh simultaneously doesn't come through Boise often, and when it does, it demands to be experienced with someone who appreciates comedy that trusts its audience.

The Morrison Center hosts this sensation at 1:00 PM, giving you the entire evening to dissect what you just witnessed.

It makes a better outing with someone who already likes sharp satire and is happy to talk about where it aimed afterward.
