The Shark Is Broken

The Shark Is Broken at Boise Little Theater

Your best friend still quotes Jaws at the beach every summer. Now you can both discover what happened when three Hollywood egos got stuck on a boat with a mechanical shark that wouldn't work. Written by Ian Shaw, Robert Shaw's actual son, and Joseph Nixon, The Shark Is Broken pulls back the curtain on one of cinema's most troubled productions.

This isn't a movie screening or some audition. It's a fully staged comedy that captures Richard Dreyfuss, Roy Scheider, and the elder Shaw waiting through weather delays while their famous mechanical nemesis sits broken in the water. Picture three performers trapped together, tempers flaring, rehearsing lines while Mother Nature and faulty machinery conspire against them.

Grab your movie-loving friend for Curtis Ransom's production at Boise Little Theater. You'll both leave with stories about the stories behind your favorite thriller, and a whole new appreciation for why that shark looks so menacing when it actually appears on screen. See the chaos behind the classic.

The waiting gives each of the three actors a different problem to deal with. Watch who needs to talk, who would rather get on with the job, and who seems least able to let a remark go. That gives the play a source of tension even while the movie they're trying to make has ground to a halt.
