The Shark Is Broken

The Shark Is Broken at Boise Little Theater

Ever wonder what happens when three actors are stuck on a boat with a broken shark and nothing to do but drive each other crazy? The Shark Is Broken pulls back the curtain on the chaotic filming of Jaws, turning Hollywood disaster into theatrical gold. This wickedly funny comedy by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon transforms the legendary production nightmares into an intimate character study you won't forget.

Picture Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider bobbing in the ocean, waiting for a mechanical shark that refuses to work. What starts as professional frustration explodes into hilarious confrontation as egos collide and tempers flare under the relentless sun. The brilliance lies in watching three very different performers navigate boredom, creative differences and the absurdity of their situation while trying to make cinematic history. Co-writer Ian Shaw is Robert Shaw’s son.

Director Curtis Ransom brings this sharp-witted production to Boise Little Theater, where you'll discover why sometimes the best drama happens between takes. Film buffs will relish the insider perspective on a masterpiece, while theater lovers will appreciate the clever interplay and comic timing that makes every trapped moment sing. The waiting makes room for a comedy about artistic temperament and the indignities of filmmaking.
