A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol at Danny Peterson Theatre at the Morrison Center

A familiar holiday tale can feel newly sharp when you watch every choice land in the same room as you. Boise State University presents the premiere run of Gordon Reinhart’s stage adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the Danny Peterson Theatre at the Morrison Center in Boise, Idaho on December 5, where Scrooge’s confrontation with his own past, present, and future gives the story its live-wire tension. Seeing that transformation unfold in person adds a different weight to each ghostly visit.

What stands out most in the theatre is how the story balances unease with the hope of redemption. This production leans into the push and pull between a ghost story and a holiday reckoning, so every scene asks you to notice how far Scrooge is being pulled from old habits toward a harder kind of honesty. On stage, that inner struggle can feel immediate in a way a screen never quite matches.

For fans who know Dickens well, the appeal is in catching the details that feel newly emphasized when a live performance frames them in real time. The premiere run gives the adaptation its own identity, and that makes the emotional turns worth experiencing firsthand. If you enjoy stories where the season’s warmth comes with a sharper edge, this is a strong reason to be there.

A Christmas Carol works because it keeps testing whether change is possible, even for someone as stubborn as Scrooge.
