A Little Princess

A Little Princess at Boise Little Theater

The gaslights flicker in a London boarding school as Sara Crewe's whole world changes with a single piece of news. This December at Boise Little Theater, Frances Hodgson Burnett's beloved story comes alive in an intimate setting where you'll watch a privileged girl discover what truly matters when everything she owns disappears overnight. John Vreeke's adaptation captures both the warmth and the sting of Sara's journey from India to a London school, where news about her father strips away her privileged position and forces her to endure hardship with nothing but imagination, kindness and dignity.

You'll leave with questions worth asking over hot chocolate afterward. What makes someone rich? Can imagination be more powerful than money? How do we treat people when their circumstances change? Nikki Wesselman's direction handles these themes with a light touch, weaving comedy through the hardship so the story never becomes heavy-handed. Young viewers see themselves in Sara's creativity and spirit, while adults recognize the timeless struggle to maintain kindness when the world turns cold.

This comedy-drama works precisely because it doesn't talk down to anyone in the audience. The Victorian London atmosphere, the honest portrayal of loss, and Sara's unshakeable dignity create an evening that respects both children and their parents. Make it an outing that gives adults and children something meaningful to discuss.
