A Little Princess

A Little Princess at Boise Little Theater

A girl’s world can change in a heartbeat, and A Little Princess makes that shift feel immediate on stage. At Boise Little Theater in Boise, Idaho, on December 13, John Vreeke’s adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett follows Sara Crewe from privilege in India to a London school where loss tests her imagination, kindness, and dignity. It is the kind of theater that lets adults and children follow the same story, then talk about what they noticed afterward.

One of the most rewarding things to watch for is how the performers handle Sara’s relationships as her life changes. Notice the way each interaction helps reveal whether someone meets her with care, distance, or uncertainty, and how those choices shape the emotional shape of the scene. That gives the production a clear human thread, even as Sara’s circumstances become more difficult.

This comedy-drama also offers a strong reason to go because it balances hardship with resilience instead of settling for a one-note mood. The story keeps finding room for hope, and that contrast makes the play feel thoughtful without losing its warmth. It is the sort of outing that can stay with you after the curtain falls.

If you want a performance that gives you something specific to watch and something meaningful to discuss, this is a good one to catch live.
