A Little Princess

A Little Princess at Boise Little Theater

Your daughter watches Sara Crewe lose everything the moment her father dies overseas. No warning. No money. No special treatment at Miss Minchin's school anymore. Just a sudden fall from privilege to servitude that feels as shocking in John Vreeke's adaptation as it must feel to an actual kid watching it unfold on December 18 at Boise Little Theater.

What makes this Frances Hodgson Burnett story worth the drive on a Wednesday night? It's one of the few family shows that doesn't pretend grief disappears with a song. Sara loved her father. He's gone. She doesn't get him back, but she gets something else, proof that who he raised her to be matters more than what he left her. Director Nikki Wesselman understands that children notice when adults choose meanness or choose grace under pressure, and this 7:30 PM production lets families watch those choices play out together.

Sara Crewe leaves India for a London boarding school and loses her privileged position after news about her father. The magic here isn't about wands. It's about a girl who refuses to become bitter when she has every reason to, and the unlikely friendships that form when kindness becomes rebellion. Imagination and dignity help her endure hardship in this comedy-drama for all ages. You'll leave with real questions to ask each other on the ride home, the kind that don't have easy answers but start conversations you'll both remember.
