Ghengar

Ghengar at Knitting Factory Concert House - Boise

Ghengar is the darker side of Ghastly, a project that uses dubstep, trap and tearout to build tension. At the Boise show with HVDES, listen for the point where an eerie texture gives way to a heavier rhythm. That shift gives bass fans something to follow across a set.

If you came to Ghengar through Ghastly, see which parts of the sound feel familiar and which take you somewhere different. HVDES gives you another artist to hear on the same bill. Bring someone who likes following the way a DJ changes the mood of a room and see what each of you picks up.

The Boise show is at Knitting Factory.

Horror-tinged sound design gives you something to listen for before the beat becomes the obvious focus. Notice how a sound can make you expect a change without telling you what the change will be. That bit of anticipation is part of what gives a longer live set its shape. It is also something you can share with a friend who usually listens for a completely different part of electronic music. They might come away talking about a rhythm while you remember the texture that set it up. Give HVDES the same attention and see how your answers change.
