Maris - Artist at Basement At Shrine Social Club

MARIS can make a private thought sound like it belongs in a chorus big enough for everybody. That is the draw when the Montana-born singer-songwriter comes to the Shrine Social Club basement in Boise. Her music puts glam-pop next to heartland rock, so there's room for the listener who comes for a big vocal and the friend who wants a line that sticks after the hook is over.

Start with Give Me A Sign, her collaboration with Caroline Kingsbury, if you want to hear how she makes that mix work on record. MOSH★PIT is another place to get acquainted with her before the show. Try the tracks on the way with somebody who knows a different corner of pop than you do. You can start with different favorites and still agree on what makes a chorus worth hearing in person.

There is also a simple reason to make the trip. MARIS brings the same playful, hands-on sensibility to her songs and live shows. Give yourself a night where you can pay attention to how a performer makes an oversized pop idea feel personal. You can follow the voice for a while, then listen for the rock underneath it. If you have been waiting for a reason to get your pop-loving friends together in Boise, this is a good one.
