Mania - The ABBA Tribute

Mania - The ABBA Tribute at Egyptian Theatre - Boise

Give an ABBA melody a few notes and see how quickly it takes you somewhere. MANIA, a live tribute production devoted to the Swedish group's music, comes to the Egyptian Theatre in Boise. Created in 1999 and first performed in 2000, this production gives Boise fans a chance to recognize the songs they know through a concert experience built around memory and melody.

The fun of a tribute is in recognizing the music through someone else's playing. You might know an ABBA song so well that you expect your ear to go straight to the voice. Try listening for the little rhythmic turn or harmony that makes it recognizable before the chorus arrives. MANIA is a stage production built around that catalog, so you can spend an evening hearing how a live tribute puts those familiar parts together.

If ABBA is music you first heard from a parent, this is a good reason to take them out. Ask which song they would play for somebody who knows only one hit. Then let a younger listener pick their own starting point. The two of you can go in with different memories and still have something to share when a melody takes you both by surprise. Make a Boise night of it and leave some time to talk about which parts brought the music back.
