Richard Thomas in Mark Twain Tonight!

Richard Thomas in Mark Twain Tonight! at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

One actor has the stage for ninety minutes. That gives you time to get used to Richard Thomas as Mark Twain, then start noticing what he does with a pause, a change of pace or a line that sounds amiable until you think about it. Mark Twain Tonight! comes to Boise’s Morrison Center for the Performing Arts on February 6, 2027, at 7:00 PM.

Hal Holbrook wrote and originally performed this solo show. Thomas brings his own stage experience to the role, including a tour as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. If you know him as John-Boy from The Waltons, there’s a pleasure in watching the same actor take on a voice you know from a different corner of American culture. If you already read Twain, the performance gives you a chance to hear what an actor can do with his timing.

Bring someone whose sense of humor differs from yours and compare which lines stayed with you. The venue advises that the show contains racially explicit language, so take that into account when choosing your company. The performance runs without intermission.

Listen for how Thomas lets a pause carry part of Twain’s humor.
