The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

Maria’s most interesting choice comes early and changes everything. In The Sound of Music, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s stage musical at Morrison Center in Boise, Idaho on June 8, she steps into the von Trapp family’s unsettled world and brings a new kind of warmth to it. That mix of confidence and uncertainty gives the story its pull, because you get to watch one person reshape a household with music and care.

What makes the show so engaging is how the relationship between Maria and the children keeps the story moving. As their circumstances change, music becomes the thread that ties their world together, and the stage format lets those turns land with direct emotional force. It is the kind of production that can speak to a younger family member without feeling simplified, while still giving longtime fans the pleasure of hearing a familiar narrative unfold live.

There is also real appeal in seeing how the musical balances tenderness with forward motion. The family’s journey is not just a series of scenes, but a changing bond that grows through song and shared attention. That makes the evening feel personal, even if you already know the story, because the live setting brings the choices and consequences into sharper focus.

If you want a night that feels both classic and immediate, this is a strong one to choose.
