The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

A house full of rules meets a woman who does not fit them, and that clash gives The Sound of Music its spark. In Boise, The Sound of Music at Morrison Center on June 10 invites you into Rodgers and Hammerstein’s stage musical about Maria and the von Trapp family, where the story begins with uncertainty and slowly finds its center through music.

What makes the piece so inviting in the room is the way each change in the family feels personal. As Maria connects with the children, the musical follows how their circumstances shift, letting the narrative open up one scene at a time. It is a strong choice if you want to share a beloved story with a younger family member or simply experience familiar songs inside a live performance.

There is also real appeal in seeing a classic live rather than revisiting it from memory. The emotional tension between Maria’s free-spirited presence and the family’s strict world gives the production momentum, and the stage version lets that contrast unfold with immediacy. That balance of warmth and restraint keeps the evening moving.

If you have been waiting for a reason to revisit this musical, this is it. The story’s heart is in the way music helps the characters change, and that thread gives the whole evening a clear shape. Join the experience in person.
