The Sound of Music

The Sound of Music at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

The Sound of Music brings a classic stage story into sharp focus in Boise at the Morrison Center on June 12. At its heart, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical follows Maria and the von Trapp family as two very different goals begin to shape the same home, giving each scene a clear pull as their lives start to change.

What makes it worth seeing in person is the tension between Maria’s openhearted approach and the family’s more guarded world. That contrast gives the story its momentum, especially as music becomes the thread that connects Maria and the children while the household shifts around them.

For anyone bringing a younger family member, this production offers an inviting way to experience a beloved musical onstage. The live storytelling lets the emotional turns land naturally, with familiar songs woven into the narrative instead of standing apart from it.

If you know the story already, seeing it unfold live adds a fresh layer to those moments. The scene-by-scene journey keeps the focus on how choices shape relationships, making this a strong night out for anyone who enjoys a musical with heart and purpose.

If you know the score by heart, give the story your attention between songs. Notice what the characters have learned about each other by the time the next one begins.
