Whitey Morgan & The 78's

Whitey Morgan & The 78's at Knitting Factory Concert House - Boise

Whitey Morgan and the 78s bring Flint honky-tonk and outlaw country to Boise. Whitey Morgan leads the band as singer and guitarist, which gives you two things to follow when a line lands. Pay attention to how the playing carries the feeling once the words have stopped.

Sonic Ranch, Hard Times and White Lines, and Hell on the Highway give you a way into the band's recorded sound before the concert. Bring somebody who likes a little grit in their country. Pick a record to listen to together and see what each of you responds to when the band is onstage.

The Boise show is at Knitting Factory.

A honky-tonk band gives you another thing to listen for once the lyric has your attention. Follow the beat underneath the singer and notice how it changes the weight of what he's saying. That can be as much of a reason to hear the band in person as knowing the records. If you first got into country through a different sound, this outing also gives you a way to hear what people mean when they talk about outlaw country. Bring a friend who already loves it and ask what made them stay with the genre in the first place.
