Beauty and The Beast

Beauty and The Beast at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

The curse breaks differently when you're watching it unfold ten rows from Belle's candlelit library. This December production of Beauty and the Beast at Morrison Center for the Performing Arts brings the Disney stage musical to Boise with something longtime fans will actually notice, the original artistic team back together, reimagining their own masterpiece. Alan Menken, Tim Rice and Linda Woolverton reunited for this production, and the score sounds different when it's breathing through live brass and strings instead of your streaming device. The orchestrations reveal musical moments you've never caught in twenty home viewings.

The sets and costumes arrived fresh for this tour, which means the transformation scenes and that legendary Be Our Guest sequence aren't recycled from previous productions. Designers started over, building new ways to pull off the magic tricks that make provincial towns feel small and enchanted castles feel infinite. You'll recognize every story beat, but the stagecraft shows you why certain moments land harder with an audience holding its breath together than they ever could on your couch.

Consider how a familiar story becomes a shared theatre outing or what a fan can notice in the score and stage design. Woolverton's book gives Belle more room to breathe onstage, and when the entire Morrison Center for the Performing Arts exhales during the final transformation, you'll remember why some stories work better as collective experiences.
