Boise State University Annual Holiday Concert

Boise State University Annual Holiday Concert at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

How often do you get to hear a marching band as part of a holiday concert? Boise State's Department of Music brings its annual Family Holiday Concert to the Morrison Center, with campus ensembles playing seasonal favorites and a special appearance by the Blue Thunder Marching Band.

The changing ensembles give you something to follow together, even if you and the person beside you know the same holiday tunes by heart. Listen for how a familiar melody takes on a different character when the sound around it changes. If your family likes to get out for music around the holidays, this is an outing with a Boise connection and several groups of local musicians to hear in one visit.

A concert like this also gives younger listeners a way in. Ask them to choose the sound they want to follow, then see what they pick up when the next group comes on. Someone who came for the marching band might find a smaller moment they like just as much. And if the season usually fills up with errands and obligations, this gives the people you want to see a date to put on the calendar. You get to spend that time hearing Boise State musicians together, with the holiday music doing most of the work.
