Little Stranger

Little Stranger at Treefort Music Hall

Put two voices next to each other and a song can change shape halfway through. Little Stranger's Kevin and John Shields are longtime friends whose alternative hip-hop puts melodic songwriting alongside different rap deliveries. In Boise, that contrast gives you something to listen for even if you are new to the duo.

Shwayze and Damn Skippy share the bill. A three-act concert lets you hear how each performer uses rhythm and melody before you settle on what stuck with you. Bring someone whose hip-hop favorites rarely match yours and compare which parts of the night you would play back if you could.

The Boise show is at Treefort Music Hall.

You can hear that contrast a little differently when you watch how the two performers use the stage. Give one voice your attention for a while, then notice how your listening changes when the other takes over. The melodic side of their writing also gives someone who comes in through a different genre a place to start. If you're trying to find a show for a group with mixed tastes, that's part of the draw. You have two voices in the headlining act and two other artists to hear before the evening is through.
