Will The Circle Be Unbroken

Will The Circle Be Unbroken at Morrison Center For The Performing Arts

What does a record built around collaboration sound like when Idaho musicians take up the tradition? Andy Byron Music presents Will The Circle Be Unbroken at the Morrison Center in Boise. The concert pays tribute to the landmark album and the traditional country music that inspired it, with Patsy Cline, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, George Jones and Merle Haggard among the artists honored.

If country music is something you first heard from a parent or grandparent, take them along. You can compare what you remember about the music and what you notice when local players interpret that tradition for a Boise audience. It is a reason to spend an evening together even if your favorite country records come from different decades.

One reason the original album is worth revisiting is that it puts different musicians in conversation with a shared set of traditions. Bring that idea to the concert and listen for what changes when a local player interprets material shaped by an earlier generation. You might recognize an approach to a lyric before you recognize a tune. For somebody who is new to the music, the honorees give you a list of artists to look up after the show. For somebody who grew up on it, the pleasure is hearing a Boise program built around a tradition they already care about.
